In September 2025, Hôpital Camejo faced one of the most difficult moments in its recent history. A fire damaged part of the hospital’s infrastructure and resulted in the loss of a critical source of backup power: our generator.
For a hospital, reliable electricity is not simply a matter of convenience. It is essential to keeping services running, supporting medical equipment, and allowing our teams to continue caring for patients when the electrical grid is unavailable.
In the aftermath of the fire, we began looking beyond simply replacing what had been lost. We saw an opportunity to invest in a more reliable and sustainable solution for the hospital’s future: solar energy.
A major step forward
Over the months that followed, Hôpital Camejo worked toward making that vision a reality. We also reached out to our community and supporters, inviting those who were able to contribute to help us move the project forward.
Today, we are pleased to share an important milestone: approximately half of Hôpital Camejo’s planned solar energy project has now been completed.
There is still work ahead before the full project is finished, but this first phase already represents significant progress.
The solar infrastructure now in place is helping Hôpital Camejo operate more efficiently and become more energy independent. In an environment where access to reliable electricity can be challenging, strengthening our ability to produce our own power helps create a more dependable foundation for the care we provide every day.
More than a solar project
This project is about more than the panels now visible on the hospital’s roof.
It is part of Hôpital Camejo’s continued effort to strengthen the infrastructure behind the care we provide. Every improvement we make helps create a more reliable environment for our patients, our healthcare professionals, and the communities that depend on the hospital.
What began during a difficult moment has become an opportunity to build something stronger and better prepared for the future.
And while this milestone is worth celebrating, it is not the end of the project. Our goal remains to continue building on what has already been accomplished until the full solar energy project is complete.
Thank you to everyone who helped us get this far
We want to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who has contributed to this effort.
Thank you to our donors and supporters, whose contributions have helped us move this project forward.
Thank you to the team on the ground, whose work has brought this first major phase of the solar installation to life.
And thank you to the administration and staff of Hôpital Camejo, who have continued to advance this project while maintaining the hospital’s daily commitment to patient care.
We also remain deeply grateful to the members of the community who stood with Hôpital Camejo during the fire and in the days that followed. Their response was an important reminder of the relationship between this hospital and the community it serves.
Continuing the journey
The fire presented Hôpital Camejo with a serious challenge. But it also pushed us to think differently about how we rebuild and how we prepare the hospital for the future.
Today, with roughly half of our solar project completed, we can already see the impact of that decision.
We are becoming more efficient. We are strengthening our energy independence. And we are creating a more resilient hospital for the patients and communities who rely on us.
There is still another important part of this project ahead of us, and we look forward to sharing that progress as the work continues.
For now, we want to recognize how far we have come and thank everyone who has helped us reach this milestone.
From all of us at Hôpital Camejo: thank you.
