History of CAMEJO hospital CAMEJO
Located in Chatuley, at the entrance to the city of Léogane, the Camejo Hospital is the result of the Camejo Polyclinic. The latter, established in the city of Anacaona since 1982 by doctors Joseph and Marie Carmel D. Charles, has largely contributed to providing quality health care to the population of Léogane and neighboring communities, in particular Gressier, Grand Goave & Petit Goave. Given the growing number of cases requiring hospital care, and faced with the local health system’s inability to adequately meet the needs of the population in terms of quality care, it was obvious that the region needed a structure with the capacity to meet the expectations of the population. Hence the idea, in 2002, to build a hospital that could replace the polyclinic and increase the services offered.
In 2002, we therefore set up the organization GROUPE CAMEJO (in French, the acronym stands for Medical and Educational Action Designed by an Organized Youth). The group’s objective was to build a hospital capable of providing adequate care to the population. Something very much lacking in the southern provinces. In addition, educational action in the medical field would allow us to train a good number of young people. We have therefore opted for progressive construction, with expansion over time, depending on demand. Camejo Hospital is a private structure funded exclusively by the cost of services provided to patients. It contains 28 beds distributed as follows: Emergencies: 5 - Maternity: 2 - Pediatrics: 5 - Internal Medicine: 8 - Private Rooms: 8. Currently, the institution operates 24/7
Operation Plan
CAMEJO Hospital is a private institution whose funding is entirely ensured by the contribution of patients for the services provided. Our policy provides for special assistance to the less fortunate for any emergency situation. And then a referral to a public institution after stabilization.
Formalities to be completed by our patients-
The urgent case: The patient who arrives urgently is received quickly without prior administrative formalities.
The regular patient: He pays for his consultation and sits in the waiting room. When his number is called, he enters the office where the medical assistant enters his contact details in her file. Then, he is seen by his doctor who takes his history and performs his physical examination.
The hospitalized patient: He goes through one of the two previous circuits before ending up in a common or private hospital room, according to his choice. He is supported by a team capable of offering him quality multidisciplinary care.
